World Book Day – March 2017

The children enjoyed their day in school for World Book Day this Thursday.

We are grateful to the parents for dressing the children up and making them look so good.

The children who won prizes for fabulous character outfits were-

In the morning classes worked with other year group teachers on poetry based activities

  • Year 3 teachers worked with ‘The Sound Collector’ by Roger McGough
  • Year 4 teachers looked at ‘An Alien Stole My Underpants’ by Brian Moses
  • Year 5 teachers investigated ‘Variation on an Old Rhyme’ by John Mole
  • Year 6 teachers completed an activity based on ‘Magpie’ by Tom Dow

In the afternoon, the children rehearsed and learnt a class poem by heart:

  • 3CB: ‘The Adventures of Isabel’ by Ogden Nash
  • 3W: ‘The Walrus and the Carpenter’ by Lewis Carroll
  • 4C: ‘The Owl and the Pussycat’ by Edward Lear
  • 4H: ‘The Jabberwoky’ by Lewis Carroll
  • 4TO: ‘Daffodils’ by William Wordsworth
  • 5C:’I’m Walking My Iguana’ by Brian Moses
  • 5W: ‘The Pig’ by Roald Dahl
  • 6S: Macavity by TS Elliot
  • 6A: ‘The Spider and the Fly’ by Mary Howitt

Mrs Thaine and Mrs Stewart were impressed by the poetry perfomances in the World Book Day school assembly
